Mike Gee, Bill Sydor and Manny Flores TQ & Win at 2014 US Indoor Champs!

This past weekend was the 35th running of the US Indoor Champs, held this year at the Holiday Inn in Cleveland, Ohio. This year saw over 200 entries, and 31 heats overall. 17.5 was the biggest touring class with 40 entries, with the USVTA, USGT, 13.5, and Mod classes also offered for TC's. This years track was very tricky combining a tight layout with high traction, soft spec tires and a bumpy subfloor, making perfect setups at a premium.

17.5 proved to be the toughest of all TC mains to make with all drivers completing 36 laps except the TQ, Awesomatix USA Driver Mike Gee being the only person to run 37 laps. Awesomatix USA Driver Bill Sydor would qualify 2nd, in addition to Manny Flores, Brian Wynn, and Dave Johnson making the show, for a total of 5 Awesomatix cars in the main, the most of any brand!  In the main, Mike would open up a gap and not look back, cruising to the win. There was chaos in the pack though, and in the end Sydor had to retire, but Johnson would navigate his way up to a podium spot in 3rd.

17.5 TC Finishing Order-
1. Mike Gee [Awesomatix]
2. Cody Woods
3. Dave Johnson [Awesomatix]
4. Damon Converse

6. Manny Flores [Awesomatix]
7. Chris Vogan

7. Mike Wise
8. Chad Stowe
9. Daniel Cook
10. Will Jossens

In the USGT class, Awesomatix USA Driver Brian Wynn set the early qualifying pace, but in rounds 3 and 4 Manny Flores stepped up to take TQ. In the main, Manny got off to a clean start and opened up a lead he would not relinquish. A few mistakes at the end by Manny made it interesting the last few laps, but in the end Manny held on with Brian finishing second, securing an Awesomatix 1-2.

USGT Finishing Order-
1. Manny Flores [Awesomatix]
2. Brian Wynn [Awesomatix]
3. Chris Vogan
4. Eric Schneeweis
5. Steve Schuttenberg

Overall it was a great weekend for Awesomatix USA with 3 TQs, 3 Wins and a podium in Mod TC. With Gee's win in 17.5, Awesomatix has swept 17.5 TC at the "Big 4" races for 2014 (ROAR Carpet Nats & International Indoor Championships - Kyle Klingforth, Snowbirds - Larry Fairtrace), not an easy feat! Special thanks to Awesomatix customers, team drivers, and the US Indoor Champs crew for putting on a great race, we will be back next year!

Raceberry, Flexible Caster Blocks, Narrow Hubs and July 2014 Price Adjustments

Our 3rd order of Raceberry Awesomatix chassis will arrive tomorrow (Wednesday July 2nd).  This run was limited to only 10 chassis and nearly 1/2 are sold due to back orders.

A restock order of Flexible Caster Blocks (A700-FCB) and Narrow Hubs (A700-AM06M) has just arrived along with many other spare parts.  The new open ball end P13-4 have been flying off the shelf.  A very large order will be placed to re-stock the P13-4 this week.

Finally, some of you might have noticed, but as of July 2014 prices were adjusted for all of the imported Awesomatix products.  The price adjustments are to make up for the declining strength of the US Dollar as compared to the Euro.  For the past few months Awesomatix USA has been absorbing these conversion rate losses while trying to keep costs consistent for our customers and dealers.  Our dealer network has been notified of the pending price changes over the last month.  Price adjustments have historically occurred every 6 months, but could have to occur at any time if there is a massive swing in Euro Dollar conversion.

2014 IFMAR Pre Worlds

Team Awesomatix EU and Awesomatix USA both arrived to test ourselves at the 2014 IFMAR Pre Worlds Warm Up at Full Throttle Raceway in Kissimmee, Florida from April 4-6 2014.  In attendance was Freddy Sudhoff, Josh Cyrul, Michael Hanulec and Mark Burt.  Although the primary class getting everyone focus was the Modified TC class, there was also a 17.5 TC class to help bring in the locals.

By the end of the weekend our Awesomatix A700 Evo touring cars would be lapping as fast, or faster than the winners of the Modified A-main -- and win the 17.5 TC Class!

The large straightaway at Full Throttle Raceway brought its own set of challenges ranging cars too slow down the straight, to cars so fast they blew part the specified rubber race tire.  The racing line, driving onto the painted areas, also threw a lot of races for a loop -- especially if you run a Red/White body like some people we know (Hanulec).

After qualifying in Modified TC, Freddy found himself 12th overall after having issues in the 5th round of qualifying and a fastest time of 21/5:01.435 (round 4). Otherwise with a 6th in round 4 and 5th in round 6 he was on track to an A-main appearance.  Local team driver, Mark, qualified 28th overall with a best run of 15th in round 5 and a fastest time of 21/5:13.076. Josh qualified 33rd overall with a best run of 20th in round 6 and a fastest time of 20/5:00.733. Michael qualified 48th overall with a best run of 33rd in round 5 and fastest time of 20/5:12.765.

In the 17.5 TC class, Mark Burt would TQ the class, with Michael Hanulec qualifying 3rd and Shane Williams qualifying 8th.

Mains

Across the board - all of the Awesomatix runners performed their personal fastest runs within the mains.

Freddy's Mains

Freddy's first two mains went off without any issue.  He raced Hara (Yokomo) noise to tail until the tone.  If you analyze the times between the A-main and B-mains you'll see-

  • In B1, Hara and Freddy went faster than Volker (A1 winner)
  • In B2, Hara and Freddy had the 4th and 5th fastest runs of the round respectively
  • In B3, both Freddy and Hara wasn't as lucky, and hand to pull off before the end.
  • Freddy shaved a total of 5 seconds off his prior best run, and moved into the 22 lap club!

Michael's Mains

After losing a bunch of time chasing electrical gremlins, Mike had the greatest overall time improvement within his mains by shaving 10 seconds off his prior best run.  E3 would have yielded his best overall result but he broke out at the end of the race while in 3rd and racing with 1st and 2nd.   As you can see - Masami was very impressed!

17.5 TC Mains

After a rough A1, Awesomatix USA's Mark Burt took the win in A2 and A3.  The big straightaways and allowing the D3.5 motor definitely made its impact on the top results.  Michael Hanulec was the highest finisher not running a D3.5-based motor.

Tie Breaker: Lowest Scores (IFMAR 2013)

Thanks

After a long week -- we learned a lot, and had some fun.  Cannot wait until October to return for the Worlds.

Big thanks to George, and the rest of the race team for running a smooth event!

Big thanks to RC Action Pics for the great shots all weekend.
